Anyone got any idea why my bicycle chain broke?

I finally got my bike working so I hoped on it and drove around town but when I stopped I noticed that my chain is broken (not at master link) also when I pedaled to go uphill I felt it being harder to pedal at some moments, I have locked rear derailleur and bike is 24 speed. So anyone knows what tf did happen? When I was going downhill engine started normally

It was new one and it broke after 1km on it xD

Rivet came loose and fell out.
I had that happen to one where I took one out to shorten the chain and put it back in.

But while pedaling this bike there were moments when I felt chain getting stiff and while after I heard it pop, So rivet still could be a reason or something else?

If it would get tight in certain spots on the chain the rivit could have been too tight

That's how we learn, we've all been there. Cheap isn't always the best deal.
