My Schwinn has a Schwinn luggage rack, which is okay. I am putting together a second bike from parts, so I go to Ace a lot for things, LOL. Wandering the aisles I found something that just seemed right.
Rubbermaid makes a mailbox holder. It is strong heavy molded plastic and costs about $10.
I was in the store getting some angle aluminum for another part of the bike, custom chain tensioner. You can buy a 4 foot piece for $9, all I needed was about 6" but they don't sell that. For $15 you can get 8 feet instead.
Some screws, from the rack mounting kits for computer equipement, which are the same size as the holes on the frame of the bike (M5) and nuts is all it takes to complete the project.
So for under $25 you can have a nice solid strong carrier on the back of your bike.
I will try to post a picture of the completed carrier, for now I just posted the mailbox mounting bracket. You could even actually put a mailbox on the back of your bike, LOL.
