Drilling and tapping a stripped out intake thread

Can't believe this happened šŸ˜¢ another pain to deal with but it gives me more hands on experience so thats the plus side of things

Just take your time with the tap. Make sure you get a good bite on the threads when starting. Turn it in 1/2 turn, back it out 1/4. You will probably need a bottom tap for the job.

When you strip treads in a hole there's two options. The simplest is to go up the next size bolt. If that isn't practical then the next option is to fill the stripped hole in by welding. Redrill the hole for the correct tap. Then tap out the hole. There's several tap charts which tell you what size drill bit to use for a particular tap.

when you tap oil the tap first.Any car oil will work.Just a few drops Turn the tap in.When you feel increased resistance back it out a ways. Turn in again.Do it slow taps are brittle and can snap, giving you more problems. In fact, find a piece of steel and practice first. You could try turning a 1/4 20 allen screw in instead of the tap.Less chance of snapping.Use the same procedure turn in,back out.Clean the threads periodically. The thing is be careful.
DEFINITELY practice. He ain't lying when he says those things break easily. You're gonna go in like 1/4 turns. Basically when you feel any resistance at all back them out. You should also buy a tap for a blind hole. I forget what they are called but they are made slightly different then a tap for a hole that goes all the way through.

Adam Savage has a good video on tapping. He shows what to do and shows how easy it is to break a tap:
