You need to be careful of mice infestation when you take the piston out, just about anything including mice can fall into the crankcase. This harbors a serious problem with mice leaving droppings in your poo poo pipe and then eventually blocking the exhaust entirely.
This will often cause dark spark plugs as the burnt gas cannot escape the fumed up environment that's clogged up worse than Taiwans air. Obviously we have better American quality air and since it burns so efficiently even a small mouse can disrupt proper gas discharge.
If you experience any problems in the future immediately tear down the entire engine and contain the possible mouse infestation to the best of your ability, if it gets out of control and they set your house on fire call an the fire department and the local wildlife control as burning mice can attract wild animals that will also infest your bicyles and department stores.
