Whizzer ignition timing.

Timing marks H engine

I left this message in another area before I found this thread. I pulled the cam for inspection, and now, can't find the timing mark on the crankshaft.

I looked several times. I know where the marks are supposed to be. It's just there is no mark on the crank. Any advice about another timing method is appreciated.

Hi Traveler,
Here are pictures of a crankshaft. If you count 14 teeth counter clockwise from the locator pin it will be where the mark sould be. It is possible the gear is on backwards and the mark is against the crankshaft.

Have Fun,

Thanks Quenton. I counted 14 teeth including the one at the locator pin. Is that correct? It looks like the timing mark is worn away. How hard is it to replace or remove the gear. Does the crank have to be removed. Any process to follow?

Hi Traveler, Yes the gear is replaceble. The gear can be removed with a small puller [or 2 screw drivers to pry it off].

If I were you I would either use a punch or a Dremel grinder and simply cause a mark to appear on the gear.

14 teeth including the one even with the pin is correct.

Have fun,
