Friction Drive Tyre Problem

re: Kenda Kourier. I used this bike as a cyclocross bike before the motor. I could trackstand in puddles 4" deep in mud, then pedal out of them. The tires work well for that. When going through mud and water with the engine kit, if already rolling, seemed like the engine would speed up some but still felt like it was pushing the bike, till it flung the water off. If I pushed down on the roller harder it worked but made some tire noise and felt like power was lost, though it could drive in the mud.

Check Niagara Cycle (www.niagaracycle.com). They have tons of Cheng Shin and closeout tires around $10, in 26", 27", and 700c. Look for the 700 x 38-40 with a big slick in the middle and small side knobs, looks like a winner.

$13 each

Just be careful cornering on pavement with the tires that have knobs on the 'sides.' If you're you're corning hard and leaning enough to get up on the knobs, they can 'bend', and possibly put you down. At the very least, they will lose traction on that hard cornering on pavement (there's a lot less rubber on the road in that case.)

Point well taken, the previous owner of my technium MB did just that
on wet pavement and broke his hip, which is how i acquired my great
vintage raleigh. Knobbies on wet pavement are not a good idea.

Must be fate, just bought a new one of those Kenda Kouriers at
a thrift store for a buck; gonna put it on my next build. Guess
i'll have to watch it on asphalt.
