TREK 4500/ GEBE w/ GP460 build

How about just getting rid of the tensioner all together?

See the attached pic with a front pivoting motor mount used to
tension the belt

PS: I have no clue why that Ducati decal is on the motor mount
Those wacky Aussies......

Well, I don't think the belt should be held statically at any tension if that is what it is doing because an off center or oblong drive ring would then cause belt stretch. If the tensioner were allowed to move freely, the belt tightens on the flat spots and loosens on the high spots for a dynamically constant tension.

Is this someone's mod or is it a gebe knockoff?
 
Cool, thanks Appye. Where do you get the idler arm and what kind do you use? I'm only familiar with the ones on the steering systems of cars.

Paul,

Just remount the tensioner arm that comes with your GEBE with the bushing setup in the diagram. You already have everything you need except for the bushings. You will probably have to redrill the pivot hole on the arm itself to allow for the width of the bushing but that is not the biggest deal. Just don't be intimidated by it.
