The diameter of the shoes should be 76mm and the bell is 78mm its a common size that many weed wackers use here is what a tapered shaft with clutch attached looks like picture is from @GodMan
So u r saying the size of the clutch is different on each? What part of it is the shoe and bell?

There are different sizes of clutch 25cc motors like the gx25 use a 54mm clutch. HS uses 76mm. The shoes look like drum brake shoes with springs and the bell looks like a stamped piece of metal that carries power from the shoes into the transmission.

HS uses 76mm u say, but how does that illustrate the difference between the straight vs tapered?

This is what the newer gx50 design looks like from the side, as you can see the clutch shoes only protrude about 1/4 from the mounting surface same is true on the huasheng with tapered shaft, its not long at all compared to a 5/8 straight shaft

Getmotorized.ca actually says 1.88hp and gasbike says 2.5hp I highly doubt it's 1.6hp do you mean the subaru or a gx35? I know for sure the huasheng has more hp than a 35cc. I got 28mph out of the subaru and 34-35 out of a 142f clone before we start talking about gear ratios and top speeds let's compare the 142 to its parent engine the gxh50
1.6 kW ( 2.1 HP ) / 7000 rpm so maybe you really mean 1.6kw instead of horsepower. The gxh uses a mechanical instead of electronic governor but it's essentially the same engine. Anyone else want to chime in about these horsepower ratings? The gx50 is also rated at 2hp but it is 47.9 cc even smaller than the 49.4cc
I too have a Honda GXH 50 engine. The Huasheng 142 is a really cheap Chinese copy. The Honda has better quality metals in it and no plastic camshaft gear.

To do 35 mph on level ground with 26" wheels at 6800 rpm requires a total reduction of 15\1. Meaning if using a 5\1 belt-drive reduction transmission you have to use a 12t\36t sprockets.

A 200+ lbs rider shouldn't go below 18\1 total reduction on 26" wheels for the 142. With the 144 the same person could go as low as a 16\1 TR. If you're around a 140 lbs or less you could drop the 142 to around 16\1 and the 144 to around 14\1 provided there's no hills over a 5% grade.

@Will'smotobikes19 I've discovered the reason you got more speed out of the H142 vs the RS35; according to the owner's manuals. Though both engines only have 1.6 hp; the H142 has 2.0 nm of torque at 4500 rpm (this is the same torque as the Honda 50). The RS35 has 1.2 nm of torque at 5000 rpm. I now see one could go as low as 17\1 TR on the H142. A smaller person could probably go as low as 16\1 TR.

The Honda 50 has 2 hp at 7000 rpm and 2 nm of torque at 4500. So it has extra power to turn the torque being generated by the engine.

The H144 has 2.5 nm of torque at 4500 rpm and 2.5 hp at 6800 rpm. Probably the best choice if you're seeking around a 35+ mph speed.
