Today I completed OSCAR's final modification: Converting his straight horizontal exhaust pipe into an upswept pipe, something I've always admired on the Whizzers my high school buddies rode in the early 1950's.
I cut the stock pipe just to the rear of the crank hanger, then wrapped 0.010" shims around the 2" stubs of both sections, so they would make a tight fit into the 1-1/4" ID
6" long piece of stainless steel flex tubing cut from the 12" piece I ordered online.
The assembly was completed with four stainless steel radiator hose clamps, 2 on each stub. (See photos)
I mounted the tailpipe higher up to a rear frame member using the stock hardware.
The exhaust tip is now 12" closer to my ear than before, making it quite a bit louder!
