I drilled a 1” hole in the belt pulley side cover. Perfect size for inserting a 14mm socket attached to a power drill. Slowly crank it up (in reverse) and fire away. A plastic insert covers the hole.

I did this on the flywheel nut of a minibike once. Snapped of the threaded part of the crankshaft. Oopsie.

My go to for starting any engine in the cold is to warm it up a little. I use a propane torch and carefully warm the cylinder, intake and exhaust without starting it on fire. I don't mean hot, just warm to the touch, usually it will start right up. A safer method would be to use a heat gun or electric heater.

Just park it in the living room, always warm but maybe not as safe.
