I can't believe this poll has been up so long and I haven't put in my two cents.
Time to fix that.
I bought two 50cc happy times from dax in the spring of 2008. They're both still running strong. I've replaced, I think, two magnetos. No issues otherwise.
When I called Duane before ordering to ask the typical newbie questions he was friendly and informative. I placed the order with confindence.
I was only mildly dis-appointed with the shipping time. My belief was that he let orders fill up for two weeks, then shipped them all at once. There's nothing wrong with that. I get the feeling that he's shipping more frequently than that now, so maybe that disadvantage is over with.
When it's time to buy another engine there is only one reason that I might not order from dax: there are a few other vendors here who seem to have good reputations and, maybe, deserve a try from me. But I'll likely buy it from dax.

The two most impressive things are communications and customer service. Any time I sent an e mail I had an answer within a couple hours. I also forgot to order a sprocket with the gearbox. I called later to add it, and not only did it come in the same package, it was installed. Appreciate the service Duane.
