Anita's first long run :)

Hey,

I have just started bringing my GEBE 25/2 (nicknamed 'Anita' for reasons I'll come onto a little later) into use finally - after getting to the point where paying to ride a bus that moves slower than I can walk got too much.

I just got back from my first long trip - 23.2 miles round trip with varied terrain and roads... the bike held up brilliantly, powerful and smooth and with my exhaust modification it sounds just like a moped.

I effectively ran it as a moped - engine powering most of the time or freewheeling on hills - average speed was 32km/h (20mph) and top speed on the trip 62.5km/h (38.8mph). It was comfortable and fairly stable and didnt seem to cause undue problems for passing motorists... I 'floored it' only a couple of times and it surged away happily and there were a few times I pedal assisted because I didnt want to load it too much on the two horribly major hills that are on the route I took.

My gran was quite surprised to see me lol, but it was nice to spend a couple of hours chatting to her

The bike does seem a little thirsty, it probably used about 3/4 of a tank to do the round trip, and I am a little concerned that there seems to be unburnt oil residue at the end of the exhaust - if anyone knows is that usual?

There are some modifications required/wanted - these are the following.

A decent soft type or sprung saddle - **** me but 20 miles *hurts* after a while - and my wrists are killing me. I have seen those long type saddles - can they carry two?

I am tempted with the airless tyres as well - but I need to know they work before I shell out - I am not managing with money as it is. if not then slick them - because right now I dont even have a puncture kit...

Those **** indicators and that useless switch - I am tempted to remove the slide switch and put in a three way paddle - so I know what position it is in - turning & fiddling is annoying and dangerous.

A mirror - has any one tried the one that hides in the handlebar?

Other than those little niggles Anita performed admirably...

And the reason I have named the bike Anita? The character Anita Blake from the author Laurell Hamilton - if you arent careful with both the girl and the bike they are both liable to hurt you lol...

any comments or suggestions would be welcome - now I am just gonna sit and ache and watch simpsons for the 10 millionth time...

Cool! Sound like you had a great time. The oil is common to all 2 strokes, especially if the mixture is rich. It sounds like that may be the case since you went through 3/4 of a tank on such a "short" ride.

Would it have something to do with the fact the engine is tight? I think I got the mixture right and its not smoking or anything.. its running 50:1 as per instructions.

Since I have fitted a continuous bore exhaust extension... would that have something to do with it?

Just worried that I'll trash the engine and I dont have the knowledge to rebuild it or the money at the moment..

iR- it's the 25ccZenoah, a real speed bandit.

The black residue is normal, especially in the first 1,000 miles, can be wiped off easily with Fantastic.

However, in a thread over in Rackem, I asked if you removed the spark arrestor/screen on the end of the exhaust pipe?

This would stop a "future problem", having that screen clog up with the same black residue, and the engine start to hiccup badly.

It is a VERY thin collar, right on the end of the exhaust. Take needlenose pliers, grab that collar at 12 o'clock and pull slightlyi, then 6, and moving around the end, it will eventually pull free.

Gal, them engines is tougher than woodpecker lips. As long as you got the oil in the gas in a fairly good ratio, this is NOT rocket science, the engine will be fine. It may take several hundred miles to get the engine broke in. I believe GEBE is 1000 or more miles before being broken in. Vary the speed run wide open then let it putt then mid throttle. When the engine breaks in, the power will surprise you. You will be putting around one day, give it a little throttle then wide open and BOOM it is like you got a gear in there. Remember, these things are FUN!

I am just still breaking in my bike. Got it up to 30mph today. Ah the power! I cant wait to ride it to work, work is 10 miles each way. Another 3 or 4 weeks of breaking in before I go more than 15 minues at a time.
I had a mirror on my old Huffy but I never used it, I dont trust mirrors I must turn my head to look. And because of the vibration, no matter how tight I had it bolted to the handlebars it tended to move and I had to readjust it constantly. They do look sylish though.

If you can't find a big sprung seat, you might try a gel seat cover. Most bike shops have em. For the wrists, you might try raising the handle bars/getting extensions and lowering the seat.

Im tempted to get one of the chopper type seats along with the old style open spring front suspension and maybe some new bars as well, trouble is I cant find anything that really goes with an mountainbike frame regarding the bars...

Glad that there is little chance of me killing the thing

Bama: I havent removed that yet, it means taking the exhaust off and thats a pain of a job.. and I have 650+ miles before its a problem.

Has anyone set up a remote choke control on these engines?
