The belt tension spring on my GEBE broke a few days ago, I made it to an Ace Hardware the same day before they closed and I bought a few equivalent springs for replacement. I was almost through the fourth gallon of fuel when it broke.
Since I've put on the new spring I've run roughly another sixty miles and the difference between the springs is like "night and day." The original spring would let the tensioner flop a lot. This was most noticeable when slowing from speed and especially from going down even a slight hill, the belt would even slip on the engine pulley making a slapping noise.
The new spring allows me to brake from speed without having to keep the engine rev'd. My guess is that the spring GEBE put on the mount was a POS. Thanks GEBE; the new spring rocks.
