More a small motorcycle than a scooter but certainly more practical than the underpowered 50cc jobs trolling around the streets in South Carolina...

Specifics:

Range:>62 miles
Top Speed: 75 mph (limited)
Acceleration 0-60: 6.2 seconds
Power: 47 HP (peak)
Price: $8000-10000 estimated

And of course... efficient LED lighting, ABS, and handle grip warmers!

Wow. 47 peak HP should allow it to keep up with its gas burning bretheren.

But wouldn't ya know it? Eight to ten thousand bucks! Ridiculous.

I don't doubt that it's a very nice machine. But at that price it can never be more than a novelty.

When will the online mags and blogs and such start hyping ultra-small transport at prices that a lot of people would be willing to pay?

That's how to get the green revolution kick-started.

To put the price in perspective, a BMW C600, bottom of the line gas scooter costs $9,590.00. Basically the C-evolution costs the same as the C 600, provides similar performance, but less range.

In one way, of course, I shouldn't be surprised or annoyed. A scooter from BMW is expected to cost $10,000. And that's why I don't look to them to provide something that'll make a difference to the hoi-polloi.

I do admire their sense of craftsmanship. It's always looked to me as though they use quality materials. And I'm not qualified to judge their engineering, but I'd be surprised if it was less than pretty-good at the least.

But they're only a supplier to a niche market. Or, to put it less charitably, to those who want to indulge in conspicuous consumption. Not that BMW is the only one. And I don't even view it as all that evil.

I just don't hold up hope that BMW will provide the world with truly sane transportation.

But maybe I'm asking too much. Maybe I ought to just enjoy the cool little scooter.
