Q-Matic II 2 speed

The Pacesetter option is a version of the Q-Matic drive. The original difference was the 3 section inside bearing support bracket in place of the one piece bracket, and a larger secondary pulley. The 3 section inside bracket is now standard on the stock Q-Matic drive. The Pacesetter drive option offers 2 primary ratios, whereas the Standard Q-Matic drive only offers one. The standard drive has a primary ratio of 2.735 X 1, the Pacesetter options are 2.865 X 1 and 3.029 X 1. These ratios are considered "fixed" ratios, and would require changing parts to alter the ratios.

The 2 speed drive however contains 2 primary ratios. The primary is basically the Pacesetter ratio, and the overdrive is basically the stock Q-Matic numbers. In real terms the ratios are spaced wider to take off quicker and actually add some top end, and this is done via primary pulley, belt, clutch weights, springs, and 2 clutches. One is the same as the Q-Matic and is the primary drive, and the overdrive clutch employs different weights & spring. The entire drive assembly is mounted in the rear of the drive, and is only about 1" wider than the stock drive.

Hope this details the difference between the systems.

have fun,
