Tom Tom One 130 GPS Bicycle Routes Option

I am planning a journey across a few states to do some survival
and fishing. It really cleanses me and I fell fantastic when I get out there. So
anyway I needed a GPS unit to get the bike routes correct. I looked around for something that would suit the situation and after several months of looking on and off, I found me a Tom Tom One 130 GPS. There is also a manufacture called RAM that makes a sturdy bicycle GPS mount specifically for the Tom Tom One 130. The ebay seller landloop can place an add specifically for it if you request it. I paid 39.99 for the mount which is worth it because its a solid piece of equipment. As far as getting the Tom Tom there's a lot of sellers that sell it. I paid $45 for it brand new in the box. This really makes sense because of the MPH feature that's on the touch screen. This way I would be killing two birds with one stone by eliminating the need for a speedometer. The bicycle mount also is built for a Tom Tom One 130S model.
Here are some buying tips for the GPS. The prices on this GPS rise and fall so if there currently up and you want to save money just keep an eye out and you'll get lucky. When I bought mine the seller had 3 listed in the add but after I bought it he pulled the add and hasn't listed them since.
I also did a recent check on the bicycle mount. There's a cheaper mount now for about $12 but its made in China while the RAM mount is made in USA. There are some RAM mounts listed currently.

Does that Tom Tom give you a choice of bicycle route or car route when you put a destination in?

Yes it does.


It talks to you and has a touch screen operation and when you touch the screen it takes you to the menu. When you get to the menu hit (change preferences) you get another menu choose (planning preferences) you get a list of choices and choose (always use bicycle routes).
If you want to ever change it back for any reason. Use the process above so you can change it back.



The GPS also comes with some extra mounts attached to it that need to be removed for mounting on the RAM mount. I have no clue about the cheaper mount. Removal only requires removing the tiny rubber covers on the car mount. Then remove the screws. It comes off when you just spin the next piece till it removes. Now you have it bare it to the speaker on the back and it slips rite in the RAM mount. It mount's really safely and tight.
I say this because I kind of stressed, not knowing that the pieces needing removing and the GPS wouldn't fit without the removal.

Thanks for the info! I was looking for just such a gps, it is nice if you are in an unfamiliar area and you can find a bicycle friendly route to where you want to go.

My Sprint EVO does this all while listening to music, movies, ect... I use google maps and the bike route function it gives you street view, satellite view moving maps. I have it rooted with a custom kernel so batt. last all day.

I have made several trips using this method and am planning one like youv'e describe also
my EVO has a slingbox on it so when I stop at night I can watch my shows You must be careful sometimes cause I was shown a route thru some areas here in FL east of Port Charlotte there was a nice backwoods hardpack dirt road with plenty of shade on the map, but turns out it was county prison property I had to turn around about 13 miles to my last junction. I cant afford that coverage plan my cell phone plane is only $20 for 3 months.
I use Boost Mobile and since I hardly ever use the phone I buy a $20 10 Cents a minute card that lasts 3 months.
After 3 months is up I always have about $5 left. This month was kind of bad because I forgot I needed to pay it since it was 3 months ago.
Also The Tom Tom doesn’t cost anything to use bicycle routes option. There is an option to pay $38 a year I think it is or one time payment or something. That’s only for car drivers to have freeway traffic condition updates. Again I'm just using it on my Honda bicycle.
The bike routes option doesn’t need the $38 plan because it just reroutes you and avoids freeways.
That’s why if you read above you would have seen I looked for this for months. I was looking for something affordable.

If you want to compare merchandise tell everyone your phone bill after 3 months. It’s more then likely a house payment.
You know when you travel through small cow towns and farm towns the State Troopers, police and sheriff create a file on you.
So when I took my last trip on my XR650R I didn’t even take a phone so the Police were kind of suspicious of that.
If I go out on survival I don’t like to take a phone. The only reason I will is to keep the Police happy.
I figure its my responsability to make sure I have a bike thats up to par. This time it will be easier because I'll have a phone.

The only negative I see about the TomTom is that you have to charge it after 3 hours. It would be nice if you could just use AA batteries so you could just carry some extra with you when the battery got to low.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to use those batteries above due to the Tom Tom not coming apart without taking off the factory stickers.

Who knows what happens if you take the battery out though. You may need to reprogram you destination. AA would be the same anyway you would have to reprogram it or whatever.
Yea I was thinking about that to as you can tell. If I only use it when I need it and charge it at McDonalds or something I'll make it real far because it connects real quickly.
It doesn’t come with a wall charger but they sell them.
It comes with a car charger and USB charger in the box.
Just in case anyone is curious, when you hit the power and time till you get GPS signal is 35 seconds.
