Motorized biker killed near Austin
We've got about 4-5 motored bikers in my area. I didn't know this young man very well but like so many folks these days, he was riding to save money. RIP Sean. I hope they catch the sorry ******* who did this.

Very sad. Austin drivers are some of the worst! I quit riding my Honda 750 ACE after hearing about and reading about all of the motorcycle accidents in A-town! Even while moto-riding on a sidewalk with a brighty orange vest on, I have still encountered some near misses. I would NEVER ride ANYTHING 2 wheel at night in and around Austin-it's just too dangerous-My dollars worth-Gearhead

Not exactly in Austin.
Hudson Bend is well out of Austin proper. The real problem is that Hudson Bend Rd. has no paved shoulder. It's called the DWI Expressway because it leads to to Carlos& Charlie's(a notorious dive bar style tavern on Lake Travis). Speed limit on that section of Hudson Bend Rd. is 45 mph when it should be 35 mph. The area is mostly residential. Pretty sure whoever hit him was coming from C&C's and was probably DWI. Riding on RR 620 is a breeze because it's got a nice broad shoulder.

Doesn't matter, as Texans per se are HORRIBLE drivers. You'll never catch me on a 2 wheel vehicle at night anywhere in Texas. Heck , I'm afraid to drive my Honda Civic on I-35 at night, esp. on the weekends!-Gearhead

GH222, I'm retired military and have lived and worked all over the country and the world. Austin is by far the most 2 wheeled friendly city I've ever lived in the US. Unfortunately, like most cities with a strong local economy, it's attracted folks from all over the world. In vehicle accidents not involving alcohol, my guess is that at least 50% of them involve folks who've moved here within the last year. Another problem is that road construction is lagging very far behind Austin's(and the rest of Texas as well) growth. The spandex gangs also have an awful reputation around here as well. I nearly hit one at RR620 and FM2222 who decided to jay-cross FM 2222 during a high traffic period(5-8pm). He was obviously short cutting through the parking lots to avoid the light and traffic.. I-35 isn't anywhere near as bad as I-10 in Phoenix, San Antonio or Houston. If you really want to see bad drivers, try Seoul, Korea or Dubai!

I keep an eye on several forums watching for MB and bicycle incidents. The hit an runs have increased in the last several years everywhere. Under the law there is less penalty for a hit in run if you get caught later than if you are drunk and hang around for the police. Many times when someone gets to close to you they are trying to intimidate you so you will not ride down the road. Some of these hit and runs are the results of someone doing this and unintentionally killing someone they decided to intimidate.

I think that if you exchanged the word INTIMIDATE with either endanger or threaten that the driver would not make the driver sound almost faultless.People who act like this are not faultless.Definition of INTIMIDATE
: to make timid or fearful : frighten; especially : to compel or deter by or as if by threats <tried to intimidate a witness>
