Stolen Bikes Boston: Community Alert: www.stolenbikesboston.com

BOSTON — Boston is launching a new program designed to use social media networks like Twitter and Facebook to track down stolen bikes.

The goal is to alert as many people as possible — including police, repair shops and other members of the cycling community — as soon as a bicycle goes missing.

The person whose bicycle is stolen can quickly fill out a form describing the bike, when and where it was stolen, and even upload a picture.

In about three minutes a blast is sent out to followers on Twitter and Facebook.

Anyone can opt into the program — called Stolen Bikes Boston — by following the alerts on Twitter or becoming a fan of the program on Facebook.
