How to clean up a motor for painting

I've purchased my Schwinn Point Beach, and I'm ready to take the motor off my old Suburban. There's old burn on oil and it looks a bit nasty. Any ideas on how to remove the oil film and the caked on **** so I can put new paint on the motor for the new bike?

I would say simple green (scrub, scrub, scrub, rinse, rinse, scrub, scrub, scrub, rinse, rinse) then brake cleaner (spray, spray spray, air dry, air dry, air dry)...but I'm a little over the top.

My advice is do not paint your motor with anything but high temp paint. the paint you use may be a really bad emitter in the far infrared spectrum where your hot motor radiates. If you need to paint use krylon ultra flat black it is the best emitter of all common paints. paint can make your motor run really hot.
