Chain Tensioner Spring Return Chain Tensioner

Why don't the box kit co's sell something like these?

I don't know why the box kit sellers (grubee, gas bike etc) don't sell something like these (seat tube mounted spring rollers) at least as an option. I'd give about $20 or $30 extra plus the standard $100-130 kit just to have it all in one box and be done with it.

I can't in good concience sell these kits to the average person because of the chain-failure/lockup problems.
If I could find a ready supply of a safe tensioner design, I'd be happy to help start a local club to build these and inform the public. A lot of kids want one of these and I tell them its not a toy.

Keep it for your next build. You know these are addicting!

That is a nice tensioner- I bought that roller wheel at TSC last year and have not figured out how to use it. Your design is very good, but due to my specific engine and frame, I cannot lift the design intact- you have inspired me though. Thanks!

Navery,

Sometimes taking out a half link still can't find an agreeable chain length for frames with fixed dropouts, and with the longer chain and no idler, chain taughtness and cog alignment (and roundness) is critical, or the chain derails from the back cog.

Spring rollers make this easy and safer, and make a multitude of frames accessible for motored biking with a chain drive kit.

Instead of bending all thread, why not use some type of stock U-bolt from the plumbing section of Home Depot? They usually come with some type of flat plate slotted for screws. You can use some rubber hose to pad the frame.

One box kit seller offers the spring tensioners

It looks a lot like the homemade ones, but probably pretty effective, $30 plus $5 shipping

Sure. I have picked up the Baja rubber wheel and spring. I think I will copy post #1 and make a clamp, or u-bolt a cut-down junction plate cover to the seat tube, with a 3/8 screw installed for a pivot for the wheel. The spring can act on the plate somewhere.

I plan to make mine push down on the top run of chain behind the driver cog case. I have my wires grounded to the bottle cage boss under the motor and its too low to do like #1.

I just bought the KORE chain stay mounted roller spring tensioner. I expect being made by KORE that it won't wear out for a long time, plus you can buy more springs and rollers. The whole thing is $26 plus $6 shipping at ebikestop http://www.ebikestop.com/

We seem to be rounding a corner here Gents!

With advent and adaptation of a chain tensioner has anybody considered a full suspension ht?

Is it possible? Input please???

P.S. Although off topic, Filled her up w/93 octane tonight and boy ohh boy what a difference! Quieter and more power! Base gasket was removed due to head bolt problems (resolved now) this increased compression like crazy. The high octane worked miracles!

Imagination is a great thing.
