Options seem limited these days, whats up ?

My thought was trying to adapt a staton gearbox to a SBP shift kit then you just need an engine. He usually should come out with a frame mount kit, i hear those china gear boxes are not very durable.

KC, I just love the idea of a frame mount, but don't feel the parts are good enough yet for reliability, day in and day out.
I don't build with or on crap either, which is why you'll never see a build on a Huffy by me.

The HS 142F 49cc 4-stroke is a direct copy and suitable replacement of the venerable Honda 50cc workhorse you see powering portable generators, pumps, etc.
Keep the oil fresh and they will run all day long every day for years.
The direct drive kit is pretty good, but the SBP shift kit replaces many of the parts.

The Sick Bike Parts jackshaft kit is pretty flexible but it did have small issues that Paul and Jim are working out as did the 4G belt drive which Don Grube and I have already worked out regarding sprocket freedom on the output shaft and in production now.

If you really want to go 'no muss, no fuss' reliable have you considered electric?
Just finished this up and have a few more days to test it before the customer picks it it.

~$1300 retail for everything but the bike with that big LI triangle battery pack.
That's a full suspension, 9-speed, dual disc ~$3500 customer supplied Specialized bike by the way but you can go much less expensive like this.

Same motor, controller, and SBP shift kit, just a smaller battery and different bike.
It was for a petite woman so a 24" Macargi Rover 3-speed bike and 600W 'bottle' LI battery complete with bike for under $1300.

I guess I'm just a symmetry kind of builder with a low center of gravity mindset, I don't like stuff above the bottom of the seat or hanging off the side when possible.

Here's the width of a RS 35 and Staton gearbox 10 3/8 inches. What you're talking about can be done with a custom built longer output shaft on the inside drive gearbox. You'll also have to widen your crank width. The setups KC uses works very well with the SBP shiftkits. However because of the design of the Staton gearbox the SBP SK won't work well with them you'll need to use the Staton double freewheel shiftkit. David Staton can machine you a longer output shaft for an inside gearbox and make a longer bottom bracket axle for your crank. You'll also want to change the exhaust on the Honda 35. It would be blowing hot exhaust gas on your right foot and leg if you don't.

Thanks for the pics Jerry ! , why use the tensioner if its unnecessary right? no premature chainring wear ??

KC, I would go for an electric. What are we talking as far as torque, top speed and range ?. Also can you comment on charge times and procedure...Thanks.

The 415 KMC chain has held up well. I run a SRAM 890 for the bicycle gears. The Staton SK comes with a 28t ring for the bicycle gears. You can order 2 steel 104mm 36t and 44t chainrings to put on as well. If you get the 8 speed 34-13 freewheel get a 17t gear for the output shaft on the gearbox. Uphill and towing 1(1-3), level ground 2(3-6). Downhill 3(6-8). The only time you shift the front chain rings is when you're in 3 or 6 in the rear.

If your bike has a 8 speed 34-11 cassette instead of using an 8 speed freewheel get a 15t gear for the output shaft on the gearbox. If you do use a freewheel you could also get a DNP Epoch 8 speed 34-11 freewheel. With the 34-11 you could reach a downhill speed close to 50 mph in the top gear (3(8) 44t:11t) on 26 inch tires. You should also get the special freewheel removal tool if you decide to get the DNP freewheel. With this setup your reduction range would be be 57.24-11.78. You should also get the tachometer/ hour counter. It will help on maintaining your oil change and air filter cleaning schedule. It will also help in letting you know the best gear to be in.
